Bodhi Tree Concerts wins CRITICS Pick for TEARS OF THE KNIFE!
San Diego Premiere of Bohuslav Martinu's TEARS OF THE KNIFE gains critical success and earns top honors as the CRITIC's PICK for the 2015 San Diego International Fringe Festival.

"Shows that celebrated dance and movement came up big winners this week at the San Diego International Fringe Festival’s 2015 awards.
This year, festival producer Kevin Charles Patterson — a longtime local dance producer — added a great number of dance works to the mix of some 100-plus shows and also expanded the Fringe to Baja, where several bicultural dance and theater shows were presented.
This year’s festival had its share of disappointments, including a number of underdeveloped plays and musicals, but dance works — which by their very nature require a great deal of advance rehearsal — topped many of the award categories with distinction.
At the top of the list with the Best of Fringe award was “Save My Soul,” an aerial ballet story developed by Wingrove Studios. The dance/cirque-style show is the first Fringe production by this new company founded by now-retired City Ballet ballerina Jennifer Curry Wingrove. The gravity-defying aerial trio stunts were dazzling, and the hypnotic music, costumes and concepts were impressive, even if the story was hard to follow without a program.

The Critic’s Pick went to Bodhi Tree Concerts’ “Tears of the Knife,” the quirky, jazzy chamber opera by Bohuslav Martinu.
The Best of Bi-National Fringe went to “Todavia,” Hernan Del Riego’s spoken word/cabaret show. And the Spirit of the Fringe award went to two shows: "Big Shot: The Musical' from Ireland and "Beats Without Borders," a world dance celebration by San Diego-based California Rhythm Project. Nancy Boskin-Mullen, director of California Rhythm Project, said the project will be remounted Sept. 12 and 13 at The Vine Theater at the Rancho Bernardo Winery."

• Outstanding Dance Production: “Reverberate,” Blythe Barton
• Outstanding Physical Theatre: “The Other Don Quixote,” La mancha de clown Quijote, ABordo Teatro
• Outstanding Site Specific Performance: “Blurred, Ruffled, and Unglued,” San Diego City College Collective
• Fringe of the Fringe: “Kate McGrew, Hooker, P.I.,” A Skirt Production
• Audience Favorite – “The Mysterium Show”
• Outstanding Comedy - “Scenes from Mars One: Now With 68% Less Gravity,” Mars One Productions
• Outstanding Circus Performance – “FRONTIER(A),” Circus Collective of San Diego
• Emerging Fringe: Jacob Surovsky received this new young artist award and the inuagural Jonathan Dunn-Rankin Scholarship through Actors Alliance of San Diego.
"Les Midge," a mashup of "Les Miserables" and "The Hobbit," won awards for Best Musical and Outstanding Direction.
